The friendly face of flight simming
During the snowy and grey November afternoon in 1946,a DC-3 of the US forces in Europe, had flown with 8 passengers on board from Munich to Marseille in France. The pilot had lost his way and crashed in a deep snow on a glacier in the Swiss Alps. Thanks still working radio device ,he could call for help.Unfortunately the localisation of the plane was mistaken by US Forces and the following days the DC-3 was searched in a wrong place. After 4 days of life in the minus 14 °C ,the plane was found and the Swiss Rescue Corp attempted to bring all passengers down to the village of Meiringen BE.The deep snow, crevices and slopes made it totally impossible. The Swiss courage and ingeniousity was to employ the first time in the history a plane with skids under the wheels to land on the snow. After few flights there and back, with no harm and with no accidents, everyone was rescued safely.Today, after 66 years the Captain Ralph H.Tate has came to Switzerland to meet his life saving Team. The plane is still there under the snow and the glory of the Swiss historic performance is still alive.
