Hi gang,

That subject again!

In many respects, I wish Ning ONLY offered either Groups or a Forum. Even I don't understand which one is the best fit.

So, should we just stick with Groups, chuck a Forum back on to see how it goes, or wot? :)

Okay, an idea. The Coffee Lounge group is kinda like how I envisaged the Forum part of the site being, i.e. a "catch all" for anything that doesn't have a specific Group designed for it.

So, how about we leave Groups as they are (and create more if we need/want them) and then have a Forum for general stuff that doesn't really warrant a group of its own?

All good feedback, guys, so thanks for the input.

I might give the Forum a go again - as well as, not instead of, the Groups.

Hi Mark!

<sigh>  I have to be honest (since you ask): following the move back to Ning I hardly ever drop by here any more. For me, the forum structure fragments the site to an unreasonablr extent, so that locating threads is hard work. Maybe having a normal forum *as well* might improve things, but in the present configuration I'm only going to be an occasional visitor, I'm afraid.

Maybe I'm unusual in this perception, but no doubt your stats will be able to tell you, one way or the other.  ;-)

Cheers,

Brian

I am not going to lie but I was not very active on the forum before we went back to Ning. I set up my profile to email me about items I was interested in but it was no where near as good at keeping me up to date. It may have been the sites fault but I still find the group thing to be much easier to keep up with and Ning does email me all the time so I can watch and see if there is something I want to read or comment on just by looking at the one email address that I have devoted to FSN. You can have both but don't take away my groups please! What Manfred states about previous posts on the forum and since it did not email me on all I told it too, it became way to much trouble to even get on FSN and if you did post, it seemed like no one ever saw it cause no one responded to things cause they were just to hard to find maybe? I don't know the real answer but I do know that I understand how it is hard for some of if not all of the after market people making you search for answers on their forums for Tech support but at the same time, I absolutely hate the fact that this is their very method of Tech Support. I have spent hours looking thru page after page of people asking for help and other people giving fifty million different answers and just maybe once in a while a real Tech Support person that actually works at the company that wrote the software may post the real answer. Usually I just give up and chuck it up to wasted money on that software and will never by from them again. I know, it is not fair to the after market company who may just be barely breaking even but I feel cheated as well so the forum ends up being a losing situaton for them and me and they have lost a customer for life as far as I am concerned. Wow I did not mean to get this wound up but I guess you can tell Mark, I simply hate forums, there I said it!

Manfred: Yes, there is that possibility. I'm not sure there is a great deal of difference to be honest! I guess people maybe feel more at home with a forum, as they know what it is. Having said that, I don't want to drive people away from the groups!

I wonder if adding the forum would get us back into the old situation where it was a pita to find previous posts.

Also; what are the main differences between the two?.

Hi Mark,

I'd like to see a forum along with groups. Didn't you have one on the old Ning site?

Have a very happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!

See ya buddy, Milt
